Lovely at Lovells
Lovell’s is a classical American restaurant located in West, Lake Forest. The restaurant’s story centers around Apollo 13 astronaut, Captain James A. Lovell. Houston, there is no problem here! Executive Chef Jay Lovell, son of Captain Lovell, makes it his mission to inspire diners and maintain the Lovell legacy. After all, his father did emphasize that “to be successful, you need to be a person who makes things happen.” Lovell’s makes things happen: the restaurant is set in a home and curated to exhibit the Captain’s journey, displaying various artifacts. No freeze-dried food here!
Astronaut foodie fact:
Common items eaten include brownies, meat, pasta, fruit and soft drinks. Astronauts must eat any fresh vegetables or fruit within two days after launch, as it quickly spoils, so the majority of fruit is dried. Any meat will have to be heat-treated to kill any bacteria that might spoil the food. Certain foods such as bread are not allowed in space as crumbs can be inhaled, get in one’s eyes or damage equipment. Tortillas are given to the astronauts instead. (Source: BRIGHT HUB)
Lovell’s serves consistent and reliable food. The classic restaurant stays true to showcasing traditional American-Cuisine–seafood, steaks, swanky salads, etc. The ambiance is country club-esque and the dress code is business casual. Lovell’s also offers a more casual dining experience in the Captain’s Lounge downstairs. Lovell’s is a good spot for special occassions, gatherings, and private events. On this evening, we had dinner for my brother’s graduation dinner. Hail to Purple, Hail to White!
